Windows 7 will not sleep - another solution when all else fails.

My windows suddenly stopped sleeping a short while ago. Searching the forums etc. many solutions were mentioned, I tried the lot, updating drivers, re-installing windows, stopping media streaming, none worked. So I started from scratch, got a fresh harddrive and installed new windows with no programs but fully updated, it went to sleep. Examined all processes etc. from task manager and made a note. Re-installed old drive that would not sleep and did a comparison of the processes etc. in task manager. I noticed one process that load for less than 1 second and dissapeared, this repeated every 60 seconds or so, the process that loaded was '64driverload.exe' and was part of the Epson Portal program. Stopped the program and hey presto, computer went to sleep, have now deleted the program and passed the info onto Epson. Try this or similar programs if you have a different printer.

    Thanks for reporting this.

If insomnia is caused by printer then it's usually also testable by turning off any printer startups in msconfig>Startup or >Services (after Hiding all MS Services). This isn't necessarily the startup needed to have scanning from printer on standby but could be bloatware related to ink levels, registration or advertising.
