Clicking on a folder name defaults to edit-name mode

    Hi everyone,

Recently it seems that any time I click on a folder it's as if I'm trying to edit the folder name. Same thing happens if I click a file - explorer thinks I'm trying to edit the file name.

The only way I can move into a folder is by selecting a different one, then rapidly clicking the folder icon next to the name - it still throws the name into edit mode but opens the directory as well.

This also happens when selecting files or folders in other applications.

    I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit.

    Any ideas?

Hello michaelc65 Welcome to 7 forums. It may be your mouse is not set correctly.. and is right clicking.. when you only want a left click to highlight .. Please go to control panel and check mouse controls.. and report back how you have it set up for your computer ..

    Hey Yard Dog!

If I go into Mouse Properties I have:

    Buttons:
Button Config - Switch primary & secondary is unselected
    Clicklock is unselected

    Hardware:
    HID Compliant Mouse.

I'm also using an old Wacom Bamboo tablet, with the buttons on the stylus appropriately configured so the main button is a click and secondary is a right click. I checked the mouse options in there as well, even though I'm not using a wacom mouse, and the buttons in there are configured correctly too.

Thanks so much for any help.

I should also add that left clicking on the desktop does nothing, but right clicking brings up the options menu, indicating that the buttons are working normally ther - this is partly why I thought it could be an explorer-based issue.

    Hi,
In Mouse properties increase your double click speed,
I'll assume you wanted to open the file but the second click activated renaming the file instead ?
    Cheers.

    Double click speed

Thanks - I did check the click speed and it's still fairly normal. This is happening on a single click only - both with the Wacom and a mouse.

Not sure what fairly normal is unfortunately :/

You might verify how your mouse is set to open items and select items,
You can from a open folders view click on Organize on the top left,
Then Folder and search options/ General,
Click items as follows what is selected here ?
