cant repair windows after being unplugged

i have a laptop and the battery doesnt work. my kid unplugged it and when i turned it back on it went into repair mode. it was unable to repair. the problem is a boot critical file is corrupt. it is something like win32\driver\ ............

so i got a windows disk and when i booted from dvd drive and tried to repair, it said there was no problem. i also tried an upgrade install but it wouldnt let me because i booted from disk. i cant run the disk any other way because the pc wont boot.

How to run chkdsk or System File Checker (SFC) from the Recovery Console

Boot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter.
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C: ) and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory.

Run chkdsk or SFC

If you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above if not C: ).
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
Let either run to completion undisturbed.

Make sure you get the same version you have installed: 32 or 64 bit; Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate.

I did all that and no problems were found. I know exactly which file is corrupt. I can access the file with bitdefender rescue cd. So cant i just delete the bad file and replace it with another? Really sucks that i might have to reinstall windows completely.

Work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

You should always be able to Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console.

However sometimes the problem isn't exactly as it appears, which is why its always best first to clear it of possible infection.

Everything that can be done is in those steps, leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to do the perfect reinstall.

Well i had to do a full install. My plug in mouse isnt working. My wifi isnt detected. When i tried to register windows there is one number on the product key that i cant read. Does anyone know if i can find the key with the pc serial number?

I'd start over and follow the steps to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7. All of the problems you've encountered are covered in it starting with confirming the Product Key on the COA sticker is readable, otherwise you'd need to run Recovery in order to reactivate either from its hotkey at boot or using Recovery disks you backed up earlier or order from Tech Support - who may be able to help you find the key if you ask them nicely.

It also explains in the steps to put your wireless driver in your backup so that if it doesn't start up connected you can install it to get online and install all of your Important and Optional Windows Updates which delivers most other drivers as well as critical patches to make them work correctly.

You might be able to connect now by plugging in via ethernet which is another step to follow to get connected quickly to get your updates and any drivers missing after all Updates are done. Once your USB drivers are installed the mouse should load its driver. They may be waiting in Windows Updates.
