    HP Laptop will not stay in sleep mode


    Hi, I'm new here so I hope I don't leave important stuff out.

    My Laptop is an HP 2000 Notebook PC, 64bit, 3GB RAM

    I recently spilled water on my laptop around the speaker areas, power buttons, and upper key rows. The keyboard is working now, but one thing I noticed is that my laptop will not stay in sleep mode. I will press the button, and not even 2 seconds later it turns on again.

    I don't know if there is something inside that got messed up, or if there are still parts that are wet. Now, it would make sense for me to rule out anything else it could be, but this only started happening after it got wet. I have searched on google for this and have found nothing similar.

    Any help is appreciated, and I will provide more info if needed


    edit: I have found something else that is strange. When my battery died, upon start up the machine created a loud "alarm" type noise that was constant for a few seconds before booting up. This also happened when I brought it out of hibernation since I couldn't put it to sleep

    If the laptop is not fully dried out while unplugged, battery removed and power drained by holding the power button, then you may have a short as soon as the water shifts. After doing those things I would turn it upside down carefully and blow a hair dryer on low heat but high fan speed on the keys area.

    As to sleep mode problems, these are almost always caused by display driver so update it now by enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then installing all Important and Optional Windows Updates. If no newer display driver is provided along with the critical patches needed to make your hardware and software work better, check on the HP Support Downloads webpage for your model.

    Other Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums cover almost everything to be gone over.

    Keep in mind that HP is the worst in the industry for bloatware and useless duplicate utiltiies that interfere with better versions built into WIn7. So if you haven't already I'd consider a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 to go from worst to best if you follow the steps closely and stick with only the tools and methods given.

Under XP I enjoyed using the sleep mode. I'm not sure if that's the correct translation, in my German windows it's called "Ruhezustand". The PC was off (more or less) and didn't consume much energy, and I could easily wake it up and had all the software and all the files open, just as I had left...
