Numbers keys and on screen keyboard problems.

I am having issues with some keys not working on my HP laptop using windows 7, specifically the numbers keys. Happens about 90 per cent of the time. So I resorted to using on screen keyboard in ease of access for certain typing.
After a download of windows updates 2 nights ago I cannot get the on screen keyboard to pop up. It comes up with a window saying c:\windows\system32\osk.exe. Also says below that A referral was returned from the server.
Does this ring a bell with anyone. Thank.

What caused your keys to stop working in the first place? Are you sure some of the time the Num Lock isn't the problem? Or are we talking about the number keys above the letters? I would remove the drivers and reinstall them. Otherwise check to see if a new keyboard helps, maybe the keyboard is bad.

As far as your on-screen keyboard.. This is most likely due to the update put out by Microsoft a few days ago. Check the link below and download the update that basically removes the bad update

December 2014 update for Windows Root Certificate Program in Windows

Reboot after you perform this action and report back.

It is recommended by Microsoft to download a new update that removes the bad update because simply uninstalling it can also cause problems.

Thanks, removing that update makes the on screen work again. Numbers not working are funny. 1,2,3,4,7 up top and the 1,4,9 on the side doesnt work. All other keys work (letters and symbols) I thought maybe something got in the keyboard underneath but its only these number keys.
Thanks for the help, well appreciated.

Sounds like a faulty keyboard. They are not that expensive and if your Mechanically inclined can change it yourself.
