Driver will not install on 32 bit XP running on 64 bit machine

    Thanks. I figured it out, as did you in your second paragraph. I realized I was indeed over-thinking it with all this bits vs. bits and that the my assumption was correct - it had to install - and therefore the first thing to check was incomplete removal. So I did and that was the problem.

    No, not really. I just did what I've often done with virus infections - when I knew the date of the infection and could therefore find the names of the files.

    I searched the drive = nothing, searched the registry for scan scanwiz and scanwizard and microtek. You would think that with "scan" only one of those would be needed, but that's not always the case. It found eight entries relating to scan or scan wizard; I deleted them, then the next install worked.
