    Wrong Boot Screen

    Hi all

I originally had Vista Ultimate x64 and Windows 7 x64 dual booting fine.

I had a problem with Win7 - my fault- needing me to restore an Acronis backup.

I still am able to dual boot but Win7 now uses the Vista boot up sequence up to the Welcome screen, i.e. it does not show the sexy new dots morphing into the Windows Logo.

Any ideas where to look for an answer.

    Regards ... Colin

    Welcome Poynder,

I believe when you restored the backup it may have changed the boot manager settings, you could try going to msconfig to see if you can change it there or you may have to reload the OS on that partition to restore boot up screen. Are you using 2 different drives or is both OS's installed on the same drive. Mine are on the same drive on my laptop so I made a ghost image of the entire drive so I have a good backup.

As Djhallucn8 mentioned, it sounds like it's now using the Vista boot manager.

You could also possibly try using your 7000 install disk to repair the bootloader/start up.

(nb, I haven't tried this so I can't say if would work or not.)

    Hi again

Thanks for a fast reply, sorry to say I've tried above actions to no avail.

To hopefully make matters clearer both OSs are on the same physical drive which has three partitions, first holding Vista and the third Win7.

Downloaded EasyBCD and ran it, took a look at the basic settings and everything seems ok.

I then looked at the debug settings and cannot make out what is happening so I have included them for anyones perusel...

I too had this problem a little while ago, and exhausted all possible avenues as far as backups, fixboot, boot repair and easyBCD go. So i had to do a fresh install to fix the problem...

So sorry pal but a fresh install might be the only way to go till easyBCD can restore 7 boot files or other backup software achieves the same thing as backup software only restores an image of the OS and not the OS complete with bootloader.

If you don't want to do a fresh install you can try a Repair Install which should work and you keep your documents and settings and you wont have to install all your programs again.

Cheers Mr Grim, did as you suggested and now back to Normal (?)

Some odd things happened on the way but were cured by a complete power down for a while, rebooted Ok.

    Thanks to all who replied.
