The following should help you out. You don't need fancy software but Windows itself.
Which CD or DVD format should I use? - Windows Help
Burn a CD or DVD in Windows Explorer
If you want the disk to work in any media device that is not a PC device, you need "Mastered" format.
I used Audiograbber for my CDs, 45s and now vinyl.
Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows
I use "Audiograbber" to "rip" songs as wav files from a CD to the hard drive. I can then burn those songs to a new audio CD-R using a burning program such as Nero or the CDBurnerXP.
Audiograbber is free
Using Windows Media Player, how do I copy the music from the CD in my drive after putting the disc in the tray, I cannot find anywhere in Media Player where it says copy disc. The links sent earlier are very useful and informative and would be great if I could get the tracks into the Library then drag and drop to burn a disc. Why isn't it all more easy to understand, very frustrating.

Has anyone noticed the 19tracks only have a file size of 1KB? That to me would indicate shortcuts and the tracks won't run because they can't associate with tracks on a different system, the CD disk.
Ron, the simplest would be to follow Boozad's suggestion and use Windows Media Player (WMP).
You didn't mention what version of WMP you have but follow this tutorial for WMP12, it should be very similar: Audio CDs - Rip with Windows Media Player 12
I have made four discs which will play o my computer but when I put them on a CD player, they won't work, any ideas why please?? Please see a screen shot of my Media Player page.
Sorry to be a pain but I have spent all afternoon on this, wasted 8 discs and got nowhere, getting a bit brassed off now.
Help please??
I don't think I am burning it as a data disc? Please have a look at the screen shot where you will see my settings.
Thanks for replying. If I am burning it as a Data disc, how do I burn it as a music one please???
Try using this tutorial, it may be easier to follow.
How to Burn CDs and DVDs in Windows Media Player 12
By the looks of it you already have the songs/albums you want, on the playlist. Next, you'll have to add them to the burn list. That's step 1.
Step 2 shows how to make sure you're going to burn an audio disk.
Step 3 shows advanced options, follow the advice given. You don't have to burn at the absolute slowest speed, somewhere in between is okay. Use the Apply volume leveling across tracks, that will help because I'm seeing different albums.
Gaps? if you want a longer pause between songs, increase the setting, and look at the last two, I'd probably leave them at their defaults.
Step 4 Burn the disk, when done give it a test. Let us know how you've made out.
