Windows 7: pc loaded with bad stuff. browsers especially.

Does the PC still have the factory install? If so that is the worst possible install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7. That's why most tech enthusiasts won't even run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Everything needed is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install just like a million others have done without a single complaint. There are very specific steps about how to avoid invaders and run a clean boot. There's also a warning a out any installed Google programs being pernicious spyware I'd avoid or further mitigate as given.

Until then you can also Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

Tried to do the same for a friend of mine, but it was way too loaded with crap. Made him a deal: dinner for a clean install a few choice programs for safer use and a quick 101 guide on better habits. The dinner was worth the hour or so of time :)

ive lost track of the hours spent on this now. if it were mine I would have formatted and reinstalled everything from the backup partition.

First problem that need taken care of is; you are running 2 anti virus programs at the same time. This will cause all kinds of problems.

From you specs.
Antivirus avast, MSE
I would suggest removing one or the other using their online removal tool.
Then update the other one and make sure it is running active.

Hi guys, Consider we have installed Win 7 x86 on a machine with 4GB RAM. How much of that RAM will be gotten by the OS itself, to be completely loaded. What about the x64 version of Win 7? What about if we have more or less RAM, please? Thanks in advance.

Eliminate all Browsers that are 'default browsers'
I do not like having any browser as my default browser. I use Firefox, Opera, and Chrome and sometimes have 2 browsers loaded concomitantly. I mistakenly made Chrome my default browser, how do I reverse this process. I removed Chrome via the control panel but when I reinstalled it it was still set...

Browsers requiring a single refresh every time a page is loaded
Everytime I try to load a page it fails to connect until I hit refresh and then it's ok. What I know: Not the browser, tried Chrome, Firefox, Torch (And IE just for shits and giggles) but no dice with any one of them. Not the modem, other systems on this network work fine. Not the hardware....
