Changing the User Folders (and paths)

I changed the user name from "user001" to "user888". That changed the name on the login/logout screens. But the user folders and paths all stayed with the old name "user001". As a result some things, like the name installed programs will grab and use, are still called "user001".

Is there a way, short of re-installing Windows, to change all the appropriate folders, paths and registry entries to read "user888" and get rid of the old user name completely?

You may want to create a new account and move the user files over to that new account. Then delete the old account.

A good explanation can be found from Brink below:

I created a new account, but then it looks like I have to adjust all the settings to get everything looking like it was under the old user account plus it looks like I have to find a way to get all the Start Menu items back. Do I have to go into each program folder and make a shortcut and then manually place it in the Start Menu?

Sorry, I'm didn't mean the default shortcuts. They show up in the new Account Start Menu.
I meant to say the shortcuts to programs I've installed on my computer (example: Microsoft Word).

Yeah, but that is easy to replicate.

I haven't been able to find a way to make all the needed changes without spending time manually re-entering numerous system settings and making new shortcuts to all the installed programs. I guess it will be easier just to reinstall the operating system, which I'll be doing shortly.
