Spoofed calls - Is it what I recived?

I received a call from a number that had nothing to do with the original source of the call so, I'm guessing this was a spoofed call...if that is the correct term? I made the mistake of challenging the caller and not simply hanging up...it got nasty. He finally hung up and then, to annoy me, he called from spoofed numbers similar to mine for 30 minutes straight. All calls were variants of recorded message that respond to any type of voice response. When originally speaking to the caller there was even a background soundtrack of other phone reps.

Is this a software system and is there a way to track these call and discover the source number or person?

Any number you might obtain would almost certainly be fake. These callers take great care that they are not located.

They seem to be big-business, have quite a bit of software supporting them and significant amount of pre-recorded senerios. Is there a suite of software products that they use?
