"A disk read error occurred" and Safe Mode Issues

So yesterday, my computer was in sleep mode, working fine. I was vacuuming my room and I blew a circuit, no biggie, happens all the time, so I turn off the vacuum and lights, went down to the fuse box, and flipped the switch back. I haven't tried to use my computer until I finished vacuuming. Once I finished, I sat down at my computer and turn it on.
Now normally, when I turn the computer on, it shows the motherboard screen, then goes to a black screen with white text which says "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" at the bottom and then it goes to the windows start up screen. This time, after being stuck on the black and white screen for a while, under the "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" It says "A disk read error occurred", "Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart". I though that was strange, so I did what it said, Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it restarted. Same message. I tried repeating this several times, nothing new is happening. I use the power button on my computer and shut it off, then turn it back on again. A different black and white screen showed up with an error message and said to press enter to continue. I pressed enter, nothing happens, so I shut off the computer and turn it back on.
Now it shows me the normal windows crash screen, where you can choose to start windows in safe mode or start it normally. I, not knowing what safe mode even meant, picked safe mode. Safe mode loads up, no issues that I could see, but I noticed the taskbar was white and the start button had the old windows look and the desktop icons were large. I decided to restart the computer, and I get the disk read error again. Restart, it works, start windows normally. When windows loads up, the taskbar is still white with the old look, and I am unable to change it to the normal Aero theme. The computer is not reading wifi, and all of the troubleshooters said that they couldn't find the problem. It seems that every other time I restart the computer, it says a disk read error occurred, or it starts into this weird version of Windows. Is it still in safe mode? Is my computer ruined? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Ok, so it seems I have solved my own problem, but I'll leave the solution for anyone else who has this issue. I opened the start menu, typed MSCONFIG, pressed enter, and changed from "selective startup" to "normal startup." I restarted my computer and everything ran fine, and everything appears to be back to normal! :)
