    BootMGR Missing.. Unusual Case

Hi seven forums I am having a problem with my pc today. It started when I was playing Mass Effect and all of a sudden my computer froze. I rebooted and during reboot I noticed the BOOT_DEVICE_LED was lit up solid red during the reboot. Surely enough my screen read SELECT PROPER BOOT DEVICE AND REBOOT... After an hour on Google ive preformed a few troubleshooting steps but noting has working. I inserted a windows 7 install disk which recognizes both of my drives, but not my OS because it isn't appering in the System Recovery Options. So I ran DISKPART, selected disk 0 where my OS is installed, selected partition 1 and marked it as active, then rebooted. Upon reboot I have a new error, BOOTMGR is missing..! Once again I booted to the disk and tried to open the Recovery Tools again but it gives me an error saying the version of system recovery is not compatible with my version of windows. So that is where I am at now any help would be appreciated because I am stumped and I would prefer not having to clean install :/ thanks I will post pictures of the errors if needed

If you have System Reserved partition as the intended boot partition, then changed the Active flag to C, it will not boot until the boot files are moved to C and it is made bootable by running Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

The error indicates first checking that the Win7 hard drive is set first to boot in BIOS and is Primary hard drive if there are others.

Is the HD listed under Storage, is set as Primary if that setting is present, and is it first in BIOS Boot Priority order?

If so google the serial listed if you don't know the make/model to get the maker so you can run HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check from the Win7 DVD or Repair CD Command line.

If the HD passes then work through Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start

I know that the boot priority is or was set correctly but my BIOS isn't detecting one of my drives and I'm guessing it's the drive with my OS on it

Proceed with the steps I gave and report back on results. If you have any questions on how to perform any steps just ask back.

I can't launch startup repair because it gives me this error every time.

Are you booting the disk you used to install Win7?

Try another from Step 7 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start
making sure it's the correct bit-version.

    Revisiting this thread...

I have a bootmgr missing issue which led me down this path of system recovery. (win7)

I've tried 32 bit as well as 64bit disc. I also tried both versions via USB key as well. I can't seem to figure this out yet feel really close to resolving it. Would love you guys help on this.

You need to use the same bit version as your installed win7. You also need to boot it in the same mode as your installed win 7 ( efi or bios mode).

If it still not working, there is likely some corruption of the installation.

You could borrow my special boot media and see if you can use the nt6repair tool, which is on the desktop

update: I believe I got some progression here but now have another issue.

I manually copied "bootmgr" file from recovery disc to my c:/ directory, I restarted and it took me to... “Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change…etc” screen. (No more bootmgr missing screen).

I selected "launch startup repair" which got me through, however during the startup repair scan process it crashed.

Should I still move forward with what you suggested or does this call for a different solution? Let me know thanks
