right, I almost forgot about it...thanks for reminding!
I got the student offer too (I think a couple of years ago...it was kind of $40) it's the PRO edition. Just to clarify: it was a student offer for the PRO EDITION...NOT A STUDENT EDITION.
I'm not sure cause I didn't really count it but I think I activated it 4 or 5 times on the same machine (that shouldn't matter) and twice on another machine (this time I'm sure because it happened in the last 2 weeks ).
Any thoughts on this one?

There is no Student edition. You are right: it is a sale on the retail version. The retail license allows it to be transferred; you just can't have two copies running simultaneously (unless it's on the same machine).
well, there is http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/su...px?ofcresset=1 but that was not what I got at the book store on campus.
I think I read somewhere that it is legal (at least no "digital" impediments) to install it on 2 machines (say primary on a desktop and on a laptop) but I'm not sure about it (my personal experience is "never ask to the seller"...roughly 1 out of 5 know what he/she's talking about)
What I can tell you is that I had installed Office on the burnt machine and while my other laptop was running, I could install all the updates and everything was running smoothly (for 2 damn weeks )
My girlfriend has it installed on a desktop and on a laptop for months!
My take is that there are so many different cases...it would be cool to have a "one-stop page" when one could easily retrieve the required info maybe with a flow chart linking the part of EULA regarding it (I'm sorry, I was googling to find what the problem of my laptop was, I found this site Troubleshooting Laptop Hard Drive Failure - Won't Boot Windows, Drive Errors, Freezes or Laptop Problem and I thought it was a cool idea to quickly an easily troubleshut a problem)
cheers
