HELP! Freezing Custom Desktop

Well, unfortunately it seems I'm still getting freezing. Noticing this a lot when I watch a video through a web browser.

I found these instructions on the web, don't know how reliable they are.

Step 1: Download and install the latest graphic driver.
Step 2: Then go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to nvlddmkm.sys.old.
Step 3: Go to nvidia directory (usually in C:\Nvidia or C:\drvvganVidia) and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_.
Step 4: Copy the file to your Desktop directory.
Step 5: Open cmd.exe by going to Start -> type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
Step 6: Change the directory to Desktop by typing chdir Desktop.
Step 7: Then, type EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. Or,
expand -r nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys
Step 8: When the expansion is complete, copy the new nvlddmkm.sys from your Desktop to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
nvlddmkm Stopped Responding – Step 9: Restart your computer and the problem should be resolved.

They forgot to mention.
You will need to right click cmd.exe to & choose run as administrator. You may also need the take ownship reg file, if Windows won't let you copy or rename those files.

You didn't happen to install the fake flash video player did you? That will cause blue screen errors and may install other stuff that you wouldn't want. I will leave the cleaning instructions to a mvp.

Thanks for that. I just did that and we'll see what happens. I tried it with just a driver update, but that eventually still led to me freezing up. I'll let you know if it keeps occurring.

I don't believe I installed a fake flash video player - I'd like to think I'm not so gullible, but with how many flash updates seem to pop up out there, who knows.

I was getting awful screen freezes after web video streams for weeks on my new R9 290x 8 gb. I spent weeks researching the issue. Luckily, it was finally solved by slightly overclocking the 2d clocks and raising Vcore voltages slightly as well, with Asus' GPU Tweak. My issue was related to Power_state_failure, so don't know if that would help. No issues since I tried that though.

If this doesn't work, that might be worth trying.

HOWEVER, now, I seem to have another problem. My computer won't let me put it in sleep or hibernate mode. The options are simply removed. I tried entering "powercfg.exe /hibernate on" into the command prompt, but it says the option is disabled by an internal component.

it is related to screen driver if your computer can't hibernate or sleep.
Try download latest Nvidia driver. But before you do this try visit this page HTML5 Video, to eliminate problem from your flash player instalation.
And last possible problems maybe your GPU since you stating your PSU went bad. Try remove your GPU and using onboard, or maybe try another what ever GPU you can get your hand into.

Well, I ended up just reinstalling the latest graphics driver instead, looks like I have sleep and hibernate mode back on. Apparently there is no option to adjust that even in my BIOS. I did try that video test page, everything seemed to work fine.

Perhaps I'm due for a GPU upgrade anyway.. I might just have to try a different graphics card by buying a new one.

Anyhow, I'm back to square one.

I would be reluctant to install programs or do registry edits that are found on the internet when you don't know where they came from or what they do. Otherwise you will soon be doing a clean install. What have you installed from the internet lately?

This has been going on for so long that I can't remember what I installed. I have installed some software since I have been having this problem, but the only thing I probably installed around the time this started happening was Bitdefender Antivirus..

Yeah, I just don't know where on earth I'll get a graphics card to borrow long enough to replicate that.. I'll see if I can find something, but I'm out of ideas at the moment.

As far as my BIOS goes, there's absolutely nothing related to sleep mode options in it as far as I can see.
