My cpu never goes over 45 degrees but it used to get hot as i put too much paste on originally. It should wipe off easy with a damp cloth. When it's dry,u can get rid of all but a stain with ur finger(not that i'd recommend that).Make sure it is tight against the cpu,and straight, and make sure u don't get any paste on the cpu pins. Also not to close to a back wall or an enclosed space.See if it still overheats with the side off, then it could be something to do with the circulation.Might sound silly, but make sure ur fans the right way round, blowing out,not in.

I haven't tried it but seems like removing an oil based grease with just water or a dry cloth is going to suck. Use an acetone type product and be done with it.

Can't you buy etanol? In pharmacy shop?
You can also use mere vodka, it's 40%etanol/60%water, works good too.
If I buy vodka it won't get near the CPU! LOL

Applied new thermal paste
Alright, this was my first time removing the current thermal paste and applying new one, the previous one was tough to remove because it was stone hard, although I didnt remove 100% of it i'd say I took out a good 70-80% of what was there. So when applying it, I hear some ppl say to put as much...

Which thermal paste to apply to CPU?
Hey all, I'm wanting to clean out all my internal fans. My system is a Dell Dimension 9200. To clean out all the fans I have to remove the heatsink to get to them (well done Dell!). I'm going to re-apply some new thermal paste to the CPU. Just wondering if anyone had any advice on which to...

Thermal Paste
After reading some good reports on Shin Etsu thermal paste, I bought some, but am having a lot of problems with getting it to spread properly. It tends to clump together, and when forcing it out, it leaves such a thin covering that the lettering on the CPU is still plainly visible. I'm about to...

Thermal paste
Hey guys, So I was hoping to get some clarification (as well as personal opinions) on thermal paste application. I have heard many different ways of applying thermal paste, and I am guessing they all work. The real question is, how MUCH? I just have a feeling I put on TOO much on my new...

Used way too much thermal paste
This isn't that important, all it is is that I'm worried. It was my first time round putting thermal paste onto a cpu, and i sort of used an entire 3.5g syringe of arctic silver 5 underneath a zalman9700. Yes some did come over the sides, wiped it off, I'm guessing there is a layer inbetween...
