PC requires password when waken from sleep

    Hi,
So usually when I put my PC to sleep, I can just wake it up and be greeted with my desktop.
Now everytime I wake it up, it says my PC is locked and I have to enter my password to log in.

I gone into power management it says "Yes" to require password when login, however I will not let me change it.

The only thing that has changed is I upgraded my Home Premium copy to a professional copy.

Type netplwiz into start/search and hit Enter. There you uncheck the little box, click Apply and provide your password (twice). Then OK > OK. Now it will log in automatically and should also work for sleep.

I actually remember having to do that for that for Windows 8, but unfortunately for some reason it didn't work.

It still will say locked, and wont let me change it in the power plan

It may not have worked because you forgot APPLY or something. I have used that on many 7, 8.1 and 10 systems and it always worked.

Maybe you have installed an application that overrides your power management settings, you can see that at the system tray.

I clicked applied and it didn't work, I think it has something to do with the power option???

Anyway I did a system restore which took me back to home premium and the problem was gone.
Does professonial have like "tighter" security?

I will run the upgrade again and see what happens.

Edit: when I upgrade, I'm once again greeted with the lock screen when I wake from sleep

Go to Power Options and look to the left for "Require a Password on Wakeup." Click on it.

At the top if it's shown click "Change Settings that are Unavailable" then down below "Don't require a password" for sleep, apply, OK, reboot.

There should be no reason you can`t change it in the way Greg describes.

It so strange. Its already set to don't require a password.
I haven't changed any of the setting, but as of now it seems fine. Have to keep checking it though

What did you mean when you said you did System Restore to go back from Professional to Home Premium? That doesn't sound possible.

How did you Upgrade to Professional, and why? It is the exact same OS except with a few features unlocked that most consumers don't need. It also wastes the Home Premium license if you do Anytime Upgrade.
