    Promoting the PC

    Hello all,

I work on a PC with the following specs. I'm going to promote it, that is, make its performance higher and faster and better than before!

    This is my plane:
1- Since my HDD has worked two years until now, and the lifetime of HDDs are limited and low, so I'm going to replace it with a new one, this time, a 1TB.
2- purchasing an SSD drive and install it on the mobo to works along with the new H.D.D
3- Replacing the 4GB RAM with an 8GB one or purchasing another 4GB and install it beside the previous 4GB.
    4-Installing Win 7 x64.

Is it the plane you would do it if you were me?
    Thanks.

Sounds perfect , 8 GB total is fine.

    May I recommend:

SSD 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 120GB | Samsung Solid State Drives

    or

SSD 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 250GB | Samsung Solid State Drives

And wouldn`t ya know, the prices on both those SSD`s just wnet up. The 250 GB was only $109 for awhile.

    Thanks for the reply.
I want to install the Win 7 on the SSD (to get its advantages for the OS) and use the HDD as a storage for keeping other materials.

    Of course :)

Tip: Do not add the hard drive until after you have installed windows on the SSD.

What about the cost, cost for upgrade.

Sometimes buying a new PC may worth more than this,

    Thanks again mate :)

Just one matter, what SSD with what specifications do I need to purchase to be fitted on the mobo with no conflict issue with the new HDD? The ones you mentioed (Samsung)?

As long as there are sata ports on the motherboard, you don`t have to buy anything.

Maybe a sata data cable if you don`t have one, and you have to have a sata power cable coming from the power supply.

If all your power supply has is 4 pin molex connectors then you buy an adaptor.

You might need a mounting bracket (3.5 -> 2.5) to mount an SSD in a HD bay.
You might need a power cable adapter or extension if your PSU does not have an available SATA power cable that is long enough.

I recently upgraded an old PC to an EVO and needed both.

A mounting bracket is really unnecessary if you don`t have the money, you can just use velcro to put it anywhere you want.

But here`s is an example of a mounting bracket, but you must have an empty drive bay and the power cable must reach the ssd.

Down the road someday you can always put an i5 cpu in it, that will help alot too

Post the exact make and model and I will look into it`s upgrade possibilities.
