Attached is a pic of my first screen - I press DEL as instructed - this is what my manual says - this is what I described in my previous post - what other way is there to set a change of boot device? There is certainly nothing about a "one-time BIOS boot menu interrupt key" other than the DEL key I already mentioned.
Are we each describing the same process using different words?
This is a bit odd indeed. After pressing DEL, do you get other choices - e.g. F9 for temporary boot order ??
Del is BIOS setup which is not a Boot Menu key.
It may need Tab to reveal other text hidden by Quick Boot.
Did you try F8 which is the normal Boot Menu key on Asus? It must be triggered before it hands over to Windows or it becomes Win7 Advanced Boot Options.
Doing a quick google search for "asus p5q se mobo bios boot menu key" I scan the results and see several references to F8 Boot menu key.
What did the Manual say?
No - I get image 1
Then I move across to Boot tab and down to Hard Drives and see image 2
Then press Enter and see image 3 where I can move to the top the drive I want.
Image 4 shows device priority and when entered shows image 5 where you can see the drive selected is as per previous screen - namely my Sandisk SSD. Ok I agree my CD drive and my Floppy drive have to be empty or else they will get looked at - but they are always empty and no time is spent looking at them. I do normally have the disc at the top but as you know I've been playing a lot recently so the present setup means if I have a CD in it will get booted from.
It is F8 key as I just said above and was again ignored.
I just gave you several ways to find out how to trigger the BIOS Boot menu and you seem to have ignored everything I said and instead went into BIOS setup again which has nothing to do with it.
Our help here is interactive, meaning we give you steps and you react to those steps and not just go off in a different direction. Thoroughness is also a good thing, since when distracted from completing all steps given we almost always find that the solution is one of the ignored steps.
Looks like it might be the F9 Boot Device Options in that last screen print.

Searched manual - nothing!
What the hell - lets press f8 during boot - and lo & behold up pops a simple menu for selecting boot device - never seen this before in my life
- never even knew it existed
- nothing prompted on screen as you've seen
- and no mention of it in my mobo manual.
So yes that's going to be useful as its effect is temporary like you said.
