First Corrupt File System, Then No USB Input

    PROBLEM:
Computer won't respond to keyboard or mouse inputs. It doesn't seem that the keyboard or mouse are even drawing any power from the computer. (No lights.) So I can't even enter my password to load the desktop.

    HISTORY:
Yesterday I started getting error messages in the tray saying that there was a problem with the Flash Plugin process not working due to a corrupt file system and that I should run the chkdsk. Then I got the error message for other processes. I decided to clean uninstall the Flash plugin in, but I couldn't even save the uninstall.exe to the desktop due to corrupt file system.

I decided to run the chkdsk. It seemed to be deleting a lot of files and things like that. When that was finished, I couldn't enter my password to load the desktop and I couldn't use the mouse to access the shutdown options. I forced a reboot, but the problem persists.

I should also add that I had a strange problem with mouse inputs last year that I outlined here. I seemed to have solved the problem by plugging the mouse into the USB port on the front rather than the rear. I tried to do that with the keyboard for the present problem, but that hasn't helped.

    COMPUTER
It is an HP p6330f with Windows 7 x64 and no modifications. There are no PS/2 inputs, so that is not an option.

If you have access to PS/2 mouse and keyboard, then there are adapters available which allow you to use usb slots, they are quite cheap. If that doesn't work, then all I can suggest is a re-install.

Update: the keyboard seems to work with the BIOS part of the start up, that is, before Windows itself loads. So, for example, I can use f10 key to select HP's hardware diagnostics (which came back "passed" on HD, memory, and CPU). I can select boot options and move around in the various menus there. I can also get the computer to boot into safe mode. But as soon as Windows starts to load (even in safe mode), the light on the keyboard goes off and it doesn't work anymore.

Try a rescue cd,e.g. Hirens or whichever one is readily available to you,to gain access to Windows and hopefully repair the damaged files. If you have Backups made, then the better way to go is a fresh install.

I managed to do a system restore within the windows repair boot option. So far, that seems to have fixed the main problem of keyboard and mouse not responding.
