When will Microsoft legal define the life cycle of a device & Win...
When will Microsoft legal define the life cycle of a device & Windows as a service?
I already know people opinions on these subjects. This will tell me if I even buy a new computer several years later using windows 10 or windows 10.99999
It will also tell me if I will upgrade to windows 10 (Maybe) or Keep windows 7.

Nobody tells you to upgrade to 10 or keep 7, that is your decision and no one elses.

Only thing I can think of is that the so-called "free version" of Win 10 is supposed to be supported for the "life cycle of the device".
Whatever that means.
No one knows yet as far as i know.
Or if the "free" Win 10 is purely an upgrade for existing installations and will never be an ISO that can later be installed at will on new hardware if you currently have a Win 7 or Win 8 license.

I thought some MVPs would know when Microsoft would release that info. The "life cycle of the device" is not only for upgrading it is also meant for newer devices as well. We still don't know if "Windows as a service" is or will be a subscription. No one wants to pay monthly for an operating system.

Microsoft has never stated anything about life cycle of a device or should they.
Keeping hardware up to date is not Microsoft's problem.
As far as I know Microsoft has not stated the methods of payment for Windows 10.
I'm thinking if one monitored the ten forum that type of information would be their quickly when Microsoft release that information.

It was stated at 10 Forums that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to Windows 7 , 8 , 8.1 for the life cycle of the device, this has yet to be proven and we will never know for sure until you know when :)
Who stated it, I have no idea.
The life cycle of the device means just that, when it dies you loose the OS, plain and simple.
Pay monthly for an OS, where did you get this crazy notion from ?
And why would you ever do it with all the free operating systems out there ?
I for one will never upgrade ( for lack of a better word ) W7 to W10. W8 or 8.1 definetly. W7, never.

Actually, Microsoft did and it is here. They did remove part of the life-cycle of the device that was shown below. It has been changed to

Microsoft does use the words (life-cycle of the device).
I have no idea what that means.
Does the device have to break or just get to old or what?
Who decides what the life-cycle of a device is?
Microsoft has created more question than they have answers in my opinion.

Once again, The life cycle of the device means just that, when it dies you loose the OS, plain and simple.
I would think in the case of Windows 10 that means when the motherboard or hard drive dies.
Of course if this happens within the free year upgrade, you fix your part, re install from your image or disc, then re upgrade to Windows 10.
