I uploaded the CBS log as an attachment.
I don't have 2 antivirus. I paid for AVG 2 months ago & have uninstalled it. I only have Norton. You may be right about it & it is junk, but since the computer is running better I am worried that if I make any changes it might go south fast. I uploaded the CBS log but don't have a clue as to what anything means. I am hoping that you people can decipher it One thing I am wondering about: when I did a disk check with AVG I got tons of corrupted AVG files. With Norton nothing. I did get an error 8506-421. I had to remove Norton & reinstall it. So far, okay. I did a virus check in safe mode/networking & it was okay. I have a link on 'how to clean an infected computer' & followed it all the way through. No virus. I did a virus scan of my external hard drive. Again okay, but you are right, I might be reinstalling the problem when I restore from my backup. I am backing up all data & also a system image that I restore when I reinstall everything. Perhaps that is another problem & I should not restore the system image. I formatted the external drive & did a ne backup. If you need any more info I will try to provide it. So far, I have done everything I can think of & if you have any more suggestions I am listening. Thx :)
Sheryl48 some how you missed some advice or you didn't understand the advice.
Remove all anti virus programs completely using their on line removal tools and install MSE until your problem is fixed. Then use as you so please.

I don't see the answer to AddRAM's question in his post # 12

Do you have a good legitimate activation key ?
"I have reinstalled multiple times. As windows continues to update it goes back to the same failed to start-startup repair-cannot repair automatically. This isn't the first time this has happened. I am reinstalling about 2-3 times a month now for the last couple of months. I have been to every forum & tried multiple solutions. I have a backup external drive that I use to reinstall everything. That is why I formatted the backup & then did a new backup while the computer is working. I appreciate your help but this is not a simple problem & there isn't any simple solution or it would be fixed by now. If you read the first post I made I detailed all this information. My computer is older but on the MS web site there are multiple post regarding this issue. Non have been resolved. I am worried that I will have to buy another computer & just dump this one. I do have a laptop that I am able to use to run my business but I want this one fixed if possible. But it is definitely not a situation where I can just reinstall & then 'be done with it'. & yes, I do have a legitimate copy of windows. I am not so poor that I can't afford to buy an authentic copy of the OS. I am insulted that you have asked me that multiple times as well as suggest that in a couple of your posts. I am not some teenage kid jerking around with the computer & downloading illegal copies of software. Thx
The above was my response to the questions concerning my copy of Windows. I uninstalled Norton & installed MSE. So far no problems. I am not going to do the activation thing etc because I don't have an activation problem. MS believes this to be an update problem. I am trying to figure out which update is causing the computer to fail to restart. There is nothing wrong with my Windows disc. It has been activated for 6 years without a problem. I f you are going to persist in doubting the validity of my Windows disc I don't think that you can offer me much help. Thx :)
You are getting all wound up about nothing.
Many people have a Windows 7 that is not activated properly and don't even know it.
Some people have bought Windows 7 from what they thought was a proper place and found out later they got swindled.
There are things that log shows that indicate problems that are not related to legal or illegal.
Any time someone has to install that many times I like to start looking at the basics.
That log I requested is basic. If it indicates a problem then members will advise accordingly.
You could also have a damaged DVD that is not installing properly which the log might give a clue too.
It's not difficult to post the log.
When you are installing 2 and 3 times a month you need help and we are trying to do just that; help you.
How much money you do or don't have is none of my concern or business.
I don't get into such things with others.
I don't have an activation issue. Windows installs just fine & I get the message that I have an authentic copy of windows. I don't want to install anything from you since you sent me the Registry Reviver. If you go to the MS website & do a search for 'windows failed to restart after update' you will find that MS considers this an update issue. There are some problems that go back to 2010. Non have been resolved that I know of. I am not an expert but I am trying to do the best I can while following the instructions that you people send me, but ultimately it is up to me to decide what to use. Thx
It's your computer so as always you can do as you see fit.
I will not help you until I see the log I requested.
Other members as usual can help if they so see fit.
Many of Windows Updates will not not install properly if for what ever reason Microsoft does not like the install and activation.
I will just watch.
I haven't had a 'startup-repair' error since I installed the MSE. I'm beginning to think that the AVG anti-virus is the program that was conflicting with my system. :)
