    Win7 is generally slow,new laptop,new installation,can't figure it out

    Hi,

I bought a new acer e1-510 laptop few months ago with no previous OS installed. I installed Win 7 x64 SP1 - clean installation, installed the drivers but it's lagging since.
I switched the whole graphic visualization to be high performance friendly so it looks like win 95 but t's still lagging, slow performance is still present.

I used those software like advance system care but no luck.

Any idea how to boost responsiveness?

Defragment the hard drive 3 to 4 times.

    Run disk cleanup several times.

Do not use any software to boost Windows 7 performance.

    Uninstall Advance System Care immediately.

Have you run all rounds of windows update yet ?

You have a Celeron, which is possibly the worst cpu you can have.

You only have 2 GB of memory, you need more. 8 GB total if possible would be ideal.

A laptop hard drive usually spins at only 5400 RPM, install windows to a solid state drive for the best performance.

That's a weak processor, scoring only 1003 on the Passmark benchmark.

    You say it's lagging.

Do you mean that it used to be OK, but has recently deteriorated? Or do you mean it has always lagged?

Advanced System Care is somewhere between unnecessary and harmful.

    Provide more details.

I have some more windows updates to install. Sometimes it happens that it doesn't allow me to install updates fully. It just goes in a loop mode for example: installing update 24 of 32 and it never ends.
I tried the same win 7 installation on a desktop comp with a better hardware and no problems there.

    It always lagged.

Regarding technical specification, it was financially acceptable for me. If I could buy a better one, I would.

    I'll try these tips.

Install updates 10 to 15 at a time, re boot when it tells you to.

    Keep de fragging :)

    Work with what you got.

Save up for a solid state drive :)

    Add memory :)

    It`s all you can do.

or... you can always install Zorin OS 9 or Linux Mint 17 or............. etc

    I'll give it a go.

This Zorin OS looks good but I'm worried about the drivers. It was pain in the bum to find them all for win 7.
As the salesman told me that this model is "locked" for win8 but I didn't like that so they unlocked the bios so I could install win7. The quest for drivers where demanding but I managed to find them.

    Hi,
    I'd look into this,
    IObit Products - Uninstall Completely

    I second removing IObit products.

The only one that is even remotely decent is the uninstaller and with Revo, you don't need to even bother with it. I've seen a lot of problems linked to it.

I would use CCleaner regularly. Most avoid using the registry feature but if you make backups every time, you should be ok.
