    Win 7 not booting

    Hello everyone,

I was a little premature with trying to move to Win 7, but I had done a sucessful install on my work laptop, and figured I'd try on my desktop.

I got through the install with no problems, reformatted my HD and installed a clean copy of 7.

I got to the booting of the computer, I get to the windows Splash screen, then it takes me to a black screen with Windows 7 For testing purposes Build 7000 in the bottom right corner. I can move my mouse around but nothing happens, even after letting it sit for quite awhile.

I just realized it may have something to do with my video card. Wish me luck as I try my onboard card...

    Good luck:)

Although if you can see the desktop, albeit not a functioning one, it may not be the video drivers.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

What is your card. Read this. It sounds an unlikely scenario but who knows. (ATI)

When trying to install graphics cards ATI Radeon HD 3870x2 ou4870x2 specifically on computers with Windows Operating system, you may however be confronted with black screen displayed on your monitor during installation of catalyst drivers.
    Solution
According to ATI, you are required to wait for about twenty minutes till the hard drive stops working. You should now restart your computer and by pressing the reset buttons or by pressing and maintaining directly the start buttons to install the drivers properly.
Unplugging the monitor and restarting can also correct it sometimes.

    Hello TechnicalAngel,
are you by any chance connected to 2 monitors (or a monitor and a TV)?

Then maybe the following thread might be helpful: Problem installing Windows 7

    The problem...

Hey, I'm new here, found this forum just googling "Does steam work with windows 7" and thought maybe you can help me out.
The problem is, I can install it, but once it gets to after "Setting up registry..." I just get a black screen when it boots up with

    Windows 7 Beta
    For Testing Purposes Only
    Build 7000

in the bottom corner. Is there anyway to fix this? From a picture guide I saw it appears thats when I would get a screen entitled "Setting up Video settings" but I dont, all I get is the black screen.
I've reinstalled about 4 times so far. Please someone! D:
    ...and the cause.

    Aha! I figured it out.
The problem was I had 2 moniters plugged in. My TV and my moniter, and I was just like "well what if its having problems disputing what screen to go to" and I unplugged it, where it would go black during install now I have a picture. Infact! I'm on windows 7 RIGHT NOW.
    Hope that helps!
