Unallocable Space in Thumbdrive

Hi, I currently have a problem not being to allocate space in a thumbdrive. I have followed tutorials from this forum, but the extend volume, shrink volume, delete volume are all grayed out.

Any help?

Thanks in advanced

Welcome to the forum.

Windows Disk Manager does not support those operations on external drives. You would need a third party utility to do that. But considering the small size of the unallocated block I wouldn't bother.

Hi, is there an alternative such as using a command prompt?

I do not want to use 3rd party programs..

Yes, you can use DiskPart Command-Line Options

If you want to clean the stick first I'd use

LIST DISK
SEL DISK # (replace with number confirmed to be the flash stick)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=FAT
EXIT

Make sure FAT is the stick's native format. If not I'd use FAT32 or NTFS.

"DiskPart is a text-mode command interpreter in Windows Vista, Windows® XP, and the Windows Server 2003® family."

Is that a problem?

No it is not or I would not have given you the commands which we use here every day.
