HP Laptop (Envy 17) running hot

My laptop runs really HOT !.

The spec of my laptop is quite high, and when I initially brought it I did so in mind of playing
medium level games. The spec is:

2011 Envy 17 2101ea
HD6850M
i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs)
6144MB RAM

The issue is and has always been it runs hot, which by reading various forums is a problem with this machine.

So I have given up gaming and just use for work and videos (if I can without over heating).

However it even runs hot just watching You Tube or twitch, right now in CPUID Hardware monitor it is running (while watching twitch) at between 70 to 85 degrees. I have used compressed air to keep vents clear - but with no real help).

The machine has switchable graphics, between on board and the HD6850M.

So I really need help in considering how I can investigate further, of course happy to upload further info as instructed.

In addition you can monitor temps from System Tray, set Overheat Protection to Hibernate at Max temp, clean out the laptop following Step 4 of Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

At worst it may need to have the CPU heatsink thermal grease replaced, something I only do if the laptop is going to be junked otherwise. The GPU could also be the culprit so it should be looked at during this operation. It is an intense project which can easily go wrong, but I also have throw-aways that have lasted years longer.

As suggested some models overheat due to bad design for which only a good strong cooling pad which suits you can often affect the temps enough to make it useable. A good place to shop for these is Staples or another Office store.
