Win 7: My Documents - Restore Default Location

    Hello there everyone,

I have moved my Documents to H:/ when I set this maschine up and now I need to change it back.

I found this handy tutorial: How to Restore the Default Location of User Folders

And I'm trying option two, and its hanging at the 1st point.

In C:\Users\(user-name) I dont have a Documets or My Documents folder so tried to make one resulting in the error: This destination already has a folder named 'My Documents'.

Could you give me a clue on what to do about it?

    Best regards,
    Lightosan

Hello Lightosan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Double check to see if your Documents folder may just be hidden by temporarily setting Windows to show hidden files. :)

    Hi Brink,

You already helped me a lot with other Problems that I found on this Forum, so thanks for that!

I have the show hidden folders option already activated.

As a test, set Windows to also show hidden protected OS files to see if the folder shows up afterwards.

If not, then go ahead and do the rest of the tutorial to restore your Documents folder, restart the PC, and see if the folder shows up. If not, see if you are able to create a new one as per the tutorial.

Imgur Ah so the files are there. (after I clicked the show OS files option)
I will do the rest of the Tutorial now.
    ->
Done the Folder is now back after a restart but the folder does not have all of the files in it. Is it save to just copy them in the "new" Documents folder or is there a way that is recommended now?

    Thanks very much again!

Great news. Is your Documents folder now no longer showing as a hidden (faded) folder?

Yes, it's safe to copy them from the old folder into the new one. :)
