Would Dell Factory restore work after Dell replaced the motherboard?

Would Dell Factory restore DVDS work after Dell replaced the motherboard? I haven't tried it because I have the dell re-installation disk, just wondered if I ever need to get rid of this computer. I am planning on keeping the computer as long as possible. Just for information no activation was required. I didn't have to use the OEM key on the back of the computer.

With dell's the key is intergrated with the os. If they replaced with same motherboard then I do not see why it wouldn't.

I thought other sources told me OEM is married to the motherboard.

That is true but not always as you can see from op post did not have to activate it. All my dell's that I have and had never have to activated it done automatically when loading os from the dell reinstalation disk.

From what I understand, Motherboard replacement are allowed if it fails. Just replacing the motherboard to upgrade your system, that requires a new license. The difference between dell doing it and other repair shop is they might need to call Microsoft for re-activation. If I ever have to use the key on the back of the machine, I may need to call Microsoft and tell them my motherboard was replaced under warranty by dell.

Dell should have seen to this. Normally an OEM will replace with exact same model mobo to avoid reactivation problems. If not they need to provide a Dell Reinstallation DVD (which self-activate) keyed to the new mobo. Contact Dell. Let us know what they say.

    gregrocker,
they did replace it with the exact motherboard, however a refurbished one. Which I really didn't like.

    I read the warranty,
Let say they didn't have a motherboard that would of worked, I would of got an Windows 8.1 refurbished all-in-one computer. If I had a desktop top model, and dell could replace the motherboard with any other that were similar to my system. They would have provided me with a installation disk, driver disk and a new oem key if needed it could be either Windows 7 or 8.1

Yes, you should still be able to request the Reinstallation DVD which Dell is the only OEM that provides. Most OEM's still try to encourage keeping their bloatware without the ability to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 since sponsors pay them hefty fees to peddle trialware, spyware and other undesirable bloatware.

If you want to go ahead now with Home Premium 64 bit installation media you already have or borrow, you can use the Product Key on COA sticker. With same mobo it should activate, possibly requiring Phone option. But if not contact Dell whose Reinstallation DVD will self-activate with the SLP factory activation file onboard.

    gregrocker,
Sorry I wasn't clear. I wasn't really asking that, in fact I already done a clean install (See my specs) using a dell re-installation they sent me earlier do to another issue I had.

When I first got the system January 2014 before they even sent me the disk or replaced the motherboard. I made dell factory restore dvds. The computer was acting slowish after removing most of the pre-installed software. So, dell sent me a re-installation disk and a driver disk. That when I did my first clean install-one of many. Then I joined the windows 7 forum in February 2014. After a few months, got a electrical surge, dell replaced the motherboard. I think the electrical surge may have made it fail sooner. Dell motherboards has a known problem with the USB slots. I think that was the actual issue. Hopefully, on this refurbished motherboard they fixed the USB problem.

I don't think I'd buy a Dell. I see too many lemons, including a slimline my Dad had to send back. It's just isn't reliable enough.
