I just don't like the way tutorials look in the non-default themes.

The majority of tutorials look pretty much the same

But you can tell when the creator pasted something from word the text is black in a dark theme when it should be white text,
Highlighting the text and clicking on the double A on the left end of the editor strips the word formatting,
Problem is some people haven't done it yet to make it normal

I have never been accused of being the brightest bulb in the room

Now, being said that, what does windows update has to do with getting windows 10?

Sorry if thick headed, read the first paragraph

For the most part windows update get done automatically so I don't read what is going on. I am extremely happy with W7, never liked the look and feel of W8 and even W8.1 did not do it for me (kinda like Vista) but I have heard that W10 is faster, more reliable and the look and feel is similar to W7 if I want.

I am guessing I need to register on the w10forum. Brink, we should be grandfathered in :)

Did you look and see if you had the four updates I posted in Post #3 ?
Look them up all four are to prepare win-7 for windows 10 to be delivered through the windows update system.

The "free upgrade" to Win 10 will presumably be delivered by Windows Update--and possibly other ways. Details not known.

You'll be able to get Win 10 in other ways as well, but how and at what cost are unknown.

When is unknown, but presumably no later than this fall.

@trashzone, I did see them but did not paid much attention to them I guess... I will go do so now.

@ignat... ok so by the looks of things, or at least for what I want, I guess I am better off nuking my currently botched W7, installing a fresh one and wait for W10 to take over.

My reasoning is that, if I am having problems and issues with my current os, I can only imagine the problems I will have once w7 gets updated to w10, unless of course, we would be given the chance or option to get a hard copy of w10 so we can do a fresh install. That still may be the case or option but I don't want to wait that long.

Ok, thank folks for your time.

    Hi,
Yep if you uninstall your third party antivirus Before using the windows update system the transition should go much easier
    Good idea to re-install :)
    Cheers.

Well, I do have all of those 4 updates, albeit, not in a row like you have them but they were all installed in March it seems.

I may not be able to get to the fresh install soon but I think it will be done before the end of the month.

    Again... thanks folks
