    xxxxx has stopped working

    Hello,

    My laptop details:
    Sony vaio VPCEB16FG
    Intel core i3
    4 gb RAM
    500 gb HD
    Windows 7 64 bit

I've been facing these problems for quite a while now and it's really annoying. Before anything else, I should mention that some time back I tried uninstalling some Sony Vaio bloatware based on this site:
    https://walrustech.wordpress.com/201...loatware-list/
Don't remember if my problems started after that or before that.

The xxxx has stopped working dialog box appears in several different situations:
    - When I right click on My Computer -> Properties
This is the error detail I get:
    Code:
     Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
      Application Name:	explorer.exe
      Application Version:	6.1.7601.17514
      Application Timestamp:	4ce7a144
      Fault Module Name:	StackHash_a5f5
      Fault Module Version:	6.1.7601.18247
      Fault Module Timestamp:	521eaf24
      Exception Code:	c0000374
      Exception Offset:	00000000000c4102
      OS Version:	6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
      Locale ID:	1033
      Additional Information 1:	a5f5
      Additional Information 2:	a5f51bcf6262bda838da74e0b7dcdd9d
      Additional Information 3:	8a25
      Additional Information 4:	8a255945050ca026a24a4c8008a28786
    - When I try to login to remote VCL (Remote desktop) of my university. The website gives me an RDP file and a password and when i try to login, the message appears. This is the error code I get:

    Code:
    Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
      Application Name:	mstsc.exe
      Application Version:	6.1.7601.17514
      Application Timestamp:	4ce7ab44
      Fault Module Name:	StackHash_ecf5
      Fault Module Version:	6.1.7601.18247
      Fault Module Timestamp:	521eaf24
      Exception Code:	c0000374
      Exception Offset:	00000000000c4102
      OS Version:	6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
      Locale ID:	1033

      Additional Information 3:	a779
      Additional Information 4:	a779a70e947f5665f63b842c65539b7b
I have disabled the drives, audio, etc in the remote desktop settings. These are the settings I am using:
    Code:
    Resolution: Full screen
    Color Depth:	16
    Audio:	None
    Map Local Drives:	No
    Map Local Printers:	No
    Map Local Serial Ports:	No
    RDP Port: 3389
The remote desktop works as far as I know since I login to my company server all the time using the same method.
I have tried updating drivers from the sony website itself, since I read somewhere that proprietary vaio drivers are best for sony laptops. I have updated java, flash, etc etc. Even tried CCleaner. Nothing works.

There are several other examples, but I remember only these two for now. I'll update the post if anything important comes to mind, or if you need any more details.
I'm probably only stalling having to reinstall my windows, but I have some important software that I can't get reinstalled atleast for a few more months.

    Please help. Thanks in advance.

You might run cmd.exe as admin, then type sfc /scannow and let Windows scan its files for integrity. If it finds problems it will fix them. If no problems, a system scan (AV) might be in order unless you know the system is clean.

To be clear just in case, Orb -> Search -> type cmd.exe then it will appear above... right-click it above and Run As Admin

    I have done sfc/scannow before.
The AV scan is periodical. I will still run a full scan again and see. But I doubt it's the problem.

DO you use Norton 36- or similar? A situation happened recently where that in itself was the culprit for a number of issues. If you remove ANY anti-virus program/suite, make sure to use their specific uninstaller. Just a thought.
