Computer not booting up (Windows 7 64bit)

I'm having a problem with my Gateway computer (Desktop). I've owned it for a good 3-4 years and today suddenly ran into this problem.

Here is the problem. My computer has been working slowly today. It takes 5 -8 seconds to load mycomputer or control panel. It crashed suddenly and now everytime I try and power it on and reboot it shows a screen where is gives me an option to continue normally or repair as it says there has been a problem with the start-up. If I click start normally, it changes screens as it should to the windows icon except when the windows icon comes out it freezes and reboots again. So my only option from there is to do the repair. I tried it, it searches for problems and tries to repair (3 hours later it says cannot find solution). I click finish and computer turns off. My question is what do I do? Is there a way to fix this. There is no safemode option for some reason so I can't go through that.

Here is my guess. I worked on a video film today which I then transferred to a 64gb usb stick. The film was 51gb so it was large. I had to render the video several times in different formats as it wasn't working with windows media player. I'm thinking, could this have caused the problem? The computer has a 1TB hard drive and I still had 400gb left or so. Could something have over heated due to so much gb being loaded onto it in the span of a day? This is a guess, I really don't know what to do and don't want to lose all my files (I did not back up anything!). Appreciate any help.

I am now able to use safe mode. This is what is happening. I got past the windows logo. But right after the logo, the monitor shuts off and says "no signal". Computer still stays on but even if I try and turn the monitor off/on by pushing the button, it still does not come on. If I understand correctly, there is a problem with the drivers. I have an intel (R) Graphics family driver. Is there a way to reinstall it? I can't seem to find the link. I will be doing this through safe mode with networking.

Yes you can always uninstall the Display driver in Device Manager and reboot to have it reinstall at startup. To clean it out more thoroughly for upgrading to a later version, be sure to uninstall it in Control Panel>Programs also.

Also Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6) to run all Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until no more are offered. This may include a newer driver Win7 (a driver-complete OS) wants, or patches required to make this hardware or software work correctly.

If no improvement after these, then work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which uncovers most problems.

Thank you very much! It worked. I just went through display driver in device manager, uninstalled the video driver and restarted. It then found the driver itself and installed it for me. Thank you again.

Make sure to Check for Updates and install the Important and Optional Windows Updates too as specified because there is no SP2 in Win7 so hundreds of patches are needed to secure and make hardware/software run correctly. There may be even more recent drivers
