Unfortunately that registry key change did not have the desired effect. I still have the My Computer and User folder switch places upon restart.
anyone got any solution for this ? even i want My Computer first but havent been able to find any solution.
Order it yourself, and then right-click on desktop and un-check the properties in the sort-by menu, this menu is what tells the desktop how to arrange the icons, if you have nothing checked, it basically has it on manual sort, rather then auto sort. This should fix your problem. if not, I have no idea how to change it.
Make sure you change the key in regedit and 64bit regisrty (run..."wow64") and reboot (just logging out then back in should do).
I beleive you said you were running 64bit w7 cause there are 2 regisrty's and sometimes if you dont change both it wont work.
If unsuccessfull try changing the key and setting the permissions for both administrator and "System" to read only. Then Reboot or relog-in.
If not try the below work-around's:
Export the Changed entry/key to a .reg file... (R-click your entry and click export)
Make a batch file (.bat) (create .txt and rename to .bat) and use/paste the dos command "REG {IMPORT}{file.reg}"
Ie: "reg import file.reg"
Odviously replace the file.reg with your path/filename
Then place the batch file in your startup folder
more info on the REG command here: MS-DOS reg command help
This "work-around" should help force the regkey at "startup" although you may have to refresh, but if you find a DOS command to "refresh" Desktop paste it in the batch file on a seprate line aswell.
Thats the only things i can think of to help you, but one should work, if not the only was is like above, you will have to manually arange the icons.
Hope this helps

Refresh destop dos command (sorta)
"rundll32.exe user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSystemParameters"
or
wmic.exe process where name="explorer.exe" call TERMINATE (restarts Explorer.exe)
or
taskkill /F /im explorer.exe (again restarts explorer)
Thats all I can think of at the molment Ill reply with more if i find it.
