Reboot option on router homepage not working

Whenever my internet connection has seemed sluggish, I've cured it by rebooting the router – there's an option for this on the “192.168.1.1” page.

Strangely, however, this is no longer working. Although the normal screen message appears - “the router is rebooting, this may take a couple of minutes” - the connection icon in the system tray remains constant and you just know nothing is happening.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause/cure for this? My grateful thanks if you can.

Just re boot the router manually.

Unplug it for 5 seconds then re connect it. Or flip the switch on the surge protector that I just know you have it connected to :)

Where did you get this router ? It should not be acting like that.

Hi AddRAM. Yes, I've unplugged whenever it's been necessary. It just bugs me that the 'router homepage' method has stopped functioning. It's the standard ISP-supplied router (TalkTalk).

Routers stop behaving in time out of the blue. I guess the cheap ones at least do.

Did you try a factory reset yet? Might help. You will have to redo the setup though, like wireless settings, port forwarding etc, so maybe take a note of them.

Also, you can try a firmware update if there is any for your router.

Call them up, tell them to ship you out a new one.

Good suggestions, thanks. I've posted on the ISP's Q&A page so I'll wait for their comments.

Reset had no effect so they're sending me a new one. Thanks to you all for your time.
