Windows Cannot Repair the Computer Automatically

Hi, I am really only used to basics here, the problem is a desktop Windows 7 when we put on the computer, it says, Windows Cannot Repair....Startup Repair Cannot Repair, we cannot do a recovery because it says computer running in a limited diagnostic state, have tried all I know in my limited knowledge, I do know my son caused this problem with a disk he put in that was obviously corrupt. Can anyone help? P.S. I have no disks and only bought this desktop second-hand.

If it's the F8 key, it does not go to safe mode.

When I press F8 I get Boot Menu - 3 options are Hard Disk, CDROM and Realtek Book Agent.
Going into these does not give me that option.

Ah, not during POST, same screen where you select Safe Mode, there is also Last Known Good Configuration. Try that.

When I hit the F8 key, there is no Safe Mode or last Config.

You may have to use another computer to make a rescue DVD or USB stick. I can't remember which one: Avast, Avira, Puppy Linux [there are 3 that I know of], numerous other security and rescue programs -- which one will be best for you to try.

Don't press F8 right after you start the PC, wait a bit. You should start tapping it just before "Loading Operating System" comes to screen, keep tapping until you get to Advanced Boot Options screen.
