Laptop Monitor not rendering properly - mostly a black and white scree

Hard to describe. I can see most things and use the laptop. However, the appearance is not right. Where I should see some color or gradations, I am seeing only black and white. Photos are rendered properly. In Thunderbird, although I have it set to show my text in green, I can only get black. Another example: In this forum, I can see the words "Thread Title" but I cannot see the box in which to type the title. I had to guess for this posting where to type the title. Hope I was right. I have reinstalled all my drivers and system file checker checks out OK. I even performed a Repair Install but still have the problem. When I log off, the screen is white with black letters where it tells me that some programs have to be shut down before the PC shuts down. The best way to understand the problem is to take control of my PC - but, obviously, that is not practical.

Do you have the same problem in safe mode (press F8 to get into it at boot)? Have you tried an external monitor to rule out the internal panel?

    Safe Mode

Same problem in Safe Mode. However, if I open with another User account, it's fine.

Maybe the aero theme got corrupted? Try another theme?

Did you check to see if the theme is a high contrast theme? Is it the same theme as the other user account uses?

    It was the Theme!!!

You're a genius and a lifesaver. Another Aero them corrected it. Now for the next question: I really like the Aero Theme I was using (Dell Purple). Can you help me get my preferred them back? FYI: I did a Repair Install that didn't correct the problem - forgot if I mentioned that in the first post. But the Blue Them works great.

To be honest when I first read your thread the other day I immediately went into themes (suspecting a high contrast one as Miles has suggested), but I could still see the boxes in the forums etc and thought that it was something else I would not of anything about.

So pat yourself in the back :) trying another account was what made it somewhat obvious.

I don't know about Dell themes. But check out Deviant Art if you want some nice free themes.

Some searching I found this Files - Microsoft OS Media Gallery - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community

but I guess it is the wallpaper only, not the theme?
