    Disabling Regedit Via GPEdit.MSC?

Should be an easy one for you.

Will disabling regedit with the Group Policy option have any effect on normal installations or games via Steam etc. or will this just effect users trying to tamper with the registry or adding downloaded registry files to it?

    Thanks.

Normal users can't change registry, and admin can find a way to undo your changes. What are you trying to do exactly?

Just trying stop normal users from tampering. I don't mind folks using my computer but I'm always worried that they'll do something to mess it up. Especially my brothers kids, they seem to be able to open regedit and services with a single key press lol. If they can't tinker with the registry accidently or otherwise with this on and I can install things with no issues that'll be ideal.

Why don't you try and see yourself? :)

Create a new standard user account, log in with it
open registry try to add something to say HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
then save (it should give a warning)

    try to install/uninstall

try to enter your own account folders

    etc

    no need to gpedit
