Windows 7: Laptop not accepting Sleep mode.

Laptop not accepting Sleep mode.

I usually put my computer in sleep mode if I'll only be a few hours away and I rarely turn it off. Maybe once a week. However, lately it hasn't wanted to go on Sleep mode. Well, the screen goes dark, but I can still hear the fans running. I know Sleep mode leaves things running, but this is too much. Last time, my computer was burning up. I suspect it's hardware issues, but I wanted to take a crack at it here.

There are also other moments in which it is on Sleep mode and I try to wake it up again. I can hear the fans but the screen is lighting up. Sometimes I have to close the lid and open it again for the screen to light up. Would appreciate any help, please and thank you.

EDIT: The first issue doesn't happen often, but it's been happening a few times lately and I have to force quit (pressing the Power button) in order to power it off. Then I turn it on again and everything's loading up again. I just installed some Windows Updates just in case.

I think it's the video card fan. Modern video cards, fan speed is controlled by the video driver. Windows Safe Mode doesn't load the video driver, so the fan runs.

Is it the driver or vBIOS? Hmm..

Some update: hibernate was working fine at first, but now it is doing the same thing and my battery usually runs out because it is still running.

I'll try to see if updating the video card driver helps. I can't remember the last time I did that. After that, I'll let you guys know. What do you recommend?

To GokAy: honestly, I have no idea. But I'll try updating it to see if it works. I think I saw it in a post while doing a Google search.

First you said you used Sleep, then Hibernate. Which is it?

I find the best config is to Sleep at 30 and Hibernate at 60. Then you can walk away without a second thought whether for a day or a month.

If you have problems timing out to sleep when you set it to test at 1 minute sleep and hard drive timeout, 2 minute Hibernate timeout, then these steps always resolve it for me: Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

Laptop goes into Sleep mode, not Hibernate
I had a problem with my laptop trying to recover from hibernate mode ("Your computer can't come out of hibernation. Status 0xc000009a") and on researching the issue I decided the hiberfil.sys file was probably corrupted. So I used command prompt and typed "powercfg -h off" then did a disk...
