When I restart y computer sometimes I see this:
I have an external drive connected to my setup. Is that why?

Possibly, if you have USB set first in boot priority. Moreso I'd think you may be experiencing a problem with your hard drive. Boot into BIOS and check the order of the boot menu, make sure your HDD is set as the primary boot drive and report back to confirm.

Hard drives, cabling, SATA ports on the motherboard are the first things I'd want to rule out.

Can we also see a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image
with all drives including external plugged in?
How do you overcome the error message?

The screen used to appear when I would boot up occasionally keeping me from getting it and now it happens on all boots.
In order to fix it I have to hold down f12 and then I see this screen and put raid:raid ready and it boots.

Does this screen show the boot possibilities? Is there a way to get it to use that one first?

Did you try this (by Boozad):
