Thank you, Brink, OPTION FOUR in that link, is what I was looking for. That was pretty easy. But then Shawn suggested "When finished, hide the KB3035583 update so it will no longer show as available to install in Windows Update." and that tutorial was utterly incomprehensible to me. Can I just ignore that?, or if I don't will my computer constantly re-download that update because it shows as available?
Yeah, you'll need to hide the KB3035583 update in Windows Update, or it will just install again if you have Windows Update set to automatically install updates.

If you have any questions about OPTION ONE below, then please ask. :)

Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates
    I went thru Option 1. 1.

Open the Control Panel (icons view), > step 4. "A) Click/tap on the View by drop down menu arrow,"
I don't have a "View by" drop down. Under my View dropdown tab there is no choice for "Large items", there is a choice for Large icons but it is in grey and I am not allowed to choose it.
The main thing is to open Windows Update first. :)

Brink: The main thing is to open Windows Update first.

Thanks, I was able to make the short cut.
Now, what do I do second?

During the time I have been trying to figure this out, I see that KB3035583 has been installed again. It doesn't show on my dash/tray, though. I guess I need to remove it though. Can you direct me again on where to find out how to do that? I am so lost at this point. I have about 5 different WordPad notes I have been trying to keep, and I can't see where the starting point is again.

I do thank you for your help thus far.

Second is to hide the KB3035583 update in Windows Update as per the tutorial below so it will no longer show up as an available update to install. :)

Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates

You'll of course will first need to uninstall the KB3035583 update again.

Hello Raf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Option Three below is recommended to remove the GWX icon. :)

Somewhere I found another way to address the GWX "problem".

Install the "fix". Then go to Task Scheduler (Local)->Task Scheduler Library->Microsoft->Windows->Setup->gwx.
Two tasks will be displayed: launchtrayprocess and refreshgwxconfig. Disable them. You can probably just end them, but I rebooted. The GWX nagware is gone.

After Windows 10 has been tested by the gamma test team (i.e., customers) for about 3 months (and/or after SP1 has been released) I will enable and start those tasks again. Hopefully the nagware will then be back, telling me how to download Windows 10. If not, I will be here asking questions. :)

    Raf,

If you disabled GWX, then it doesn't matter about the GWX directory other than the small amount of space it takes. :)

it's my space and i wil do with it wath i want en nobody else.
Updates are disabled if I do then it means that I do not want to receive updates
I am satisfied with the PC as it is now
and no one should interfere in my decision, I have a memory of myself and I can decide for myself what's good for my equipment
    except my bad english

i ame a custumor and i have a choice to work with wat i want and how i want it and else i go and spend mi money on somthing else
