In my setup with multiple displays, the 2nd monitor shows only my wallpaper and mouse cursor. It is my monitor 1 that shows my icons, folders, etc.

I recreated your problem by shutting off the power to my monitor 1 (primary), so only my monitor 2 is powered up. Like your problem, the monitor only shows my wallpaper and mouse cursor. Like you, I could create a New Folder, and use it to navigate to a program executable. Double clicking on the program exe did not appear to run the program. But it did actually run the program -- it was running on the turned off primary monitor 1, where I could not see it.

Since your problem acts like a multiple display issue, if your graphics card has multiple video outs, have you tried switching your monitor cable to the other "out" to see if your display now works?

To my uniformed mind, your problem sounds much more like a display problem than a windows problem..

What you're saying makes sense to me now, but I only have 1 monitor and that's a huge flat screen tv and I don't understand the part where you're talking about multiple video outs.

Edit; Bah, just read your last post, only 1 TV you got? Let me think

I believe your main display is left on your TV. My second display turns black as well when I press CTRL ALT DEL. The problem for you is OS somehow thinks your TV is turned on, and assigns it as the Main Display. Couple of things you can try when this happens:

- Turn on your TV and switch to the correct HDMI port.
- Right click empty desktop space and "Screen resolution".
- Click Identify, and see what is the number of your monitor.
- Then select TV and "Show display only on #" # is monitor's number.

- Open "Screen Resolution" as above
- if it doesn't show, don't press mouse anywhere, or any other key but press Win+left arrow, every press moves the active window to certain places, repeat Win+left arrow, eventually that window will show on your monitor
- disconnect TV as described above

Ok, still try this method:
- open Screen Resolution
- Win+left (Win+right work too, just keep to one) until you see that window
- make TV main display (check the tick box) and apply.

Check device manager for any monitors other than your TV, and remove/uninstall them.
