    Start Menu item name clash

I'm using a laptop with a factory-install option. I recently used that to wipe my system and start over, after first backing up my hard disk. I restored the User folder after the re-installation, then restored various programs that I use, and pinned them to the Start Menu. Here's the problem:

About half of the things I pinned to the Start Menu have a "(2)" after their names. This includes Notepad, and everything I installed myself (except for one program). When I shift-right-click the items and try to rename them, I get "There's already a file with the same name in this location". No idea what that location might be! If I did, I could just delete the duplicates. Anyway, everything works, but that "(2)" is aesthetically displeasing. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

    Thanks!

I would search for ".lnk" files and see if you can find the dupes without the (s)s

    B'golly, that worked!

I wasn't sure where to search, and my first couple of tries came up dry. So then I searched the whole disk for "Audacity.lnk" and found it in C:\Users\Cliff\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu. Opened that, and found what looks like the rest of the duplication.

    Thanks for your help!
