none of my exe files will open

Currently none of my exe files will open. They are set to open with windows media center. This happened when I attempted to open Java for my school work. I cannot change the default program, cannot restore to earlier point, and cannot run any clean up. I have AVG and cannot run it. I downloaded several different erasers or virus wipes. Please help me I need my PC for my school work.

Hello Curt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed exe option in the tutorial below should be able to restore the default association for your .exe files. :)

This is not changing the file type. The files are still exe. I send them to a zip file, then extract the file but no change.

It won't change the file type. It will only change the association for what opens .exe files back to default.

Files are supposed to be exe after merging the reg file. Did you restart your PC afterwards?

I have created a zip file from my desktop shortcut and I cannot merge or even change any default programs. The only default programs listed are: microsoft office programs, firefox, wordpad

Eh, what are you trying to do? :)

1- Download the reg file for exe, direct download link https://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...efault_exe.reg
2- right click the reg file and select merge
3- click for the windows that will pop: run, yes (UAC), yes, ok
