Windows 7: win key requires press+hold+release to call up start menu

win key requires press+hold+release to call up start menu

Not sure what's going on here, but this problem started out of nowhere a couple of days ago.

In order to call up the start menu with the windows key, I need to press and hold the key for at least a full second, then release it.

No other functionality of the window key is being affected and other commands respond as normal (win+D, win+L, etc.) CTRL+ESC also works as normal to call up the start menu.

I don't have sticky or filter keys or any of that stuff enabled.

Any ideas?
