What happens to data when a buffer is used?

I'm trying to figure some things out for buffering, and am pretty confused, can someone please help me out...

    A. It is stored in the buffer until the operating system uses it. Then the data area becomes overwritten by the buffer.

    B. It is stored in the buffer until the operating system uses it. Then the data area becomes overwritten by the buffer. Then the data is loaded from the main memory.

    C. It is stored in the buffer until the user needs access to the data. Then the data area becomes overwritten by the buffer. Then the data is loaded from the main memory

    D. It is stored in the buffer until the user needs access to the data. Then the data area becomes overwritten by the buffer. Then the data area becomes overwritten by the buffer.

    Thank you

Hello and welcome lowpro mate I don't know why you ask this as it just happens to be part of the machinations of computing / computers - in the instance you are referring to see this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_buffer - if you look at Applications in that link it gives a fairly good analogy for what is going on.

    The answer is:

    E. None of the above.

edit: I think/hope that is the correct answer. Any discussion?
