Latest Critical Update seems to have corrupted User Profile Service

I allowed the latest Microsoft Update to install at normal close down last night and this morning I am getting the
message "The User Profile Service service failed to logon. User Profile cannot be loaded." This then loops back to my start up screen, but clicking on my User icon produces the same Fail message!
I can force a Safe Mode start up but find that System Restore is not active.
Can anyone help with a work around please?

    Hello Peter,

The method in the tutorial below may be able to help you get this sorted. :)

User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

    Hi Brink,
Thanks for your quick reply and pointing me in the right direction. The regedit route adjusting the .bak entry did the trick for me.
    Very grateful.
    Regards,
    Peter

Not to butt in but some malware can disable restore points and corrupt user profiles. It may be worth running multiple (different AV software) scans to insure the problem doesn't return.
