Windows 7: Open dialog problem

W7 Pro SP1 64bit

DOH! I've slept since post #6.
Maybe I did notice that browser folder.

Notice that I created a file named brother.txt. That got a match when I typed bro. Then I changed my mind and went with a folder named test for the image in my post. I can only guess that I opted to match a folder because the OP was not matching a folder. That's my story for now. I'll remember things differently after some more posts.

:::would make for a terrible eye witness:::

I am sorry I did not represent my problem properly but with the help of Username Issues I made a better presentation
In recent days i encountered with this problem of folder option (i think) when i usually try to save a file or open a file-i entered few words and a drop menu appeared in file name box with a list of some file name with same initials that I entered, but now it did not appear
I have attached two photos with this to give more clear idea of problem. Both these Screenshots are of Notepad so that I can provide you the exact problem

I also tried the restore default option in folder options but it did not work. Please help me in this regard and thanks for your effort

Setting AutoSuggest to no will reproduce your issue for me within a W7 Virtual Machine (VM).

Setting AutoSuggest to yes might fix your issue.

But here is the puzzle:
The key named AutoComplete (shown in the left pane in the image above) does not exist in Windows 7 by default. At least not in the W7pro64bit VM that only has SP1 installed... and not in the W7pro64bit VM that has all updates installed. Something else must add that key.

Auto-suggest was set to no but after setting it to yes, problem solved.

thanks UsernameIssues and all of you for help.

You are welcome.

It seems that Windows common dialog boxes do the suggestions by default.

Some app* adds that registry info as a way to turn suggestions off.

We just needed to turn suggestions back on.

*Perhaps some security app thought suggestions were a privacy concern - since it could suggest names of files that are not otherwise visible in the top part of the dialog box unless you scroll. Someone looking over your shoulder might see NSFW file names.

The windows save dialog, open dialog, or search bar doesn't work.
Hello. When I click "Save as", or "Open" for any dialog that uses the built in windows "Save" or "Open" dialog, it doesn't open. The windows search bar (bottom-left corner click on windows and then start typing) doesn't work either. It won't display any results, or react to my typing. "Save as"...

How could I accomplish this? Here's a visual example: What I want to do is place any sort of link (like the downloads icon) on the side where I've put a square on, because I'd like to just have the downloads right there. How could I do it?
Every time I open a .exe file it opens the "open with" dialog box
I have ASUS Windows 7 x32bit and I have tried everything on the internet, every time that I try to open a .exe file it will open the "open with" dialog box instead. I have already established that I have not got a virus because what happened was I stupidly selected adobe accidentally when it didn't...

Open dialog box
When I click on some icons on the desktop I get this dialog appear: This is annoying, so is there any way of getting it to run the program without this? So far Google Chrome and Team Fortress 2 do this.
