    Windows startup failure

My Gateway desktop fails to boot up on startup. I can't even get into safe mode. Startup repair runs and I get this message: startup repair offline. I do not have a Windows 7 disk to repair from. I've run all the other system recovery options with the exception of factory restore. I'm saving that as a last resort. When I try to restore to an earlier point in time, I get this message: System Restore failed to extract the file (D:\$Extend\RmMetadata\$Txf) from restore point. I've run chkdsk. I've used command prompt to try and reset Bios. I've tried to return to the last good configuration point. I've run a memory check. Is there anything else I can do short of a factory recovery?

I haven't done number 9 because I don't have another computer to use to burn a cd. I've about resigned myself to just trash everything and start over. My computer is kind of old anyway, might actually be good for it.

Do you have a USB device plugged in to your computer?
