Unable to start up computer. Black screen and unresponsive

    Hey

I have a toshiba satellite l350d laptop and earlier today for some reason the screen went black while I was using it. No back light or anything. I figured it just shut down due to over heating because it was pretty hot underneath. But the fan was still running and the power, battery and cd drive lights were still on. I tried shutting it down by holding the power button but it is completely unresponsive. So I waited until the battery ran out. I booted up my computer but the screen remained dark and only the lights and fan turned on. I know I should be posting my computer specs but I don't know what they are at the moment.

Hopefully there is a easy fix for this

If you see harddisk activity, try an external monitor/TV. Turn on the laptop and wait a while (most laptops don't display to externals until Windows load).

I apologize for the lack of clarity. Its not the hard disk light that is on its the dvd rom drive light. And I'm not sure the issue lies with the screen because I tried to force shut it down and close the lid but it still wont turn off. After I wait for the battery to run out I fire it up and the only noise I hear is the fan running. Usually there is another sound before the fan starts up (I think it was the hard drive spinning). It might be something with the motherboard but I hope its not.

Only few things can be tried:
Try with AC adapter alone, and then with battery alone.

Tried both and its still the same. I also took a look at the motherboard and nothing appears to be damaged I made sure all of the wires were connected properly and cleaned all the dust inside. But nothing has improved. I also tried pushing the caps lock key while it was on and the light did not go on.
