Asks for username and password; the username is "media" and I have to enter password each try until it takes it. Same as when I first stated getting help back in August I think. I have been able to get into it within the last week or so. Still no problem the other way From the pc I can see the player, then the Drive. I can do basically whatever I want with the drive.

Do you have to enter it once every time and it gets forgotten at a later time? Or get asked for it repeatedly and then decides to accept?

What happened when, with your help, we got it all working, the media player allows me to enter manually (password each time ) or by a shortcut that I saved. Now, if I go in via the shortcut or directly, it asks the same questions.

Is there a way that I can go through netplwiz to the media account and check the password. I do have it written down on my notes from August but who knows, maybe something happened. It is the same password I used in August to set it up.

Hmm, well I am not knowledgeable about the media player but perhaps there is an option to remember credentials, a checkbox perhaps?

You can't check the password unfortunately but you can set a new one (can be the same as what you think it is). Then check the shortcut on media player to see if they are the same.

Can you check on one thing please? Once you open a folder on the PC with media player, go to the PC and right click Computer - Properties - Share Folders - Sessions. What does the connected user name show as? (Should be "media").

What I did this morning s go into netplwiz, click on "user must enter username and password" which is the only way I can move around in that window, click on media, click on reset password then apply.

Now I can access the pc from the media player just fine. I have not rebooted the pc yet so I am hoping it wont now ask for a password for me to get into the pc. I think that I will uncheck the password box then give it another try with the new media password.

By doing what you did, you removed the password from "media" user. That's why you can enter without being asked for one. There is no problem on your PC though.

I guess I should have said that the option "user must enter username and password" was NOT originally checked; now it is. I always had to enter a password before anyway. I will turn that option back to "unchecked" and try the new password just in case.

Ok; here is where I got to now. Yes, I can now access the PC from the Kdlinks 720 HD media player using a username and password each time using a saves favorite.

But now when I reboot the pc, I get the option of logging on as "media" or "OTHER". I go in via OTHER and I enter my Windows 7 username and password. Obviously I changed something in USER ACCOUNTS but I don't know what. I did turn on, then off, the option "Users Must enter Username and password.............

But it is now unchecked so I don't get why it is doing this. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I guess I am partially knowledgeable. Changed setting in my user account and I am auto-booting again with the correct account.

Just went it to the media player and again was able to completely access the pc.

I have no idea why this issue cropped up again, but keeping note sure helped.

    You keep poking the PC

That checbox in netplwiz is for auto-login to the PC (has nothing to do with network access). When you un-ticked your main user, you get asked for which user to log in with.

    What I would try is:
    - change "media" server password (from how you described, I think you set an empty password) and set it same as before
    - un-tick main account to auto-login with
    - sort the issue with media player

If I understood you wrong and you did set a password for media user, then only un-tick your main user account so PC logs in with it.
You can also keep media user password blank but it is better practice to have a password.
