Missing dll files and Windows 10 upgrade

    Hello,

Some dll files are missing in my Windows 7.

Will this compromise Windows 10 installation?

Will the installation of windows 10 eliminate the problem of missing dll?

Bonjour and thanks for your help.

if you know which DLL files are missing i advice a quick google search to download them and paste them into their proper folder. to be on the safe side, it's better to have them on the system. if it just says missing DLL then i would advice like the other poster and say to backup everything.

It is never advised to download dll files. OP could just try updating after imaging C and restore it back if it fails to update. Then I would say repair install Windows 7 first.

sorry, i didn't word that right. i meant if his computer was notifying him which DLLs' are missing he should find them online and replace them. if he didn't know i said do what you told him to do and backup. i was agreeing that what you said was right, i see the wording error i made and i am sorry.

:) The online DLL sites are not to be trusted even if you know which DLL is the issue. Perhaps you can copy from a trusted PC that is working and you have access to. But I don't know if there are any issues with this (matching bit versions etc).

Thank you all for your answers.

But can we assume that the installation of windows 10 will replace windows 7 completely, and that we should'nt worry
afterwards about the missing dlls of windows 7 ?

I can't talk for others, I wouldn't count on it. That's why I said, image C (and other System partitions if there may be) and then proceed as you wish. If update fails due to missing dlls or due to something else (which is more likely than not) you can just recover in a matter of minutes (to the problematic state that is).

not trying to hijack here, i am about to make a general discussion post. but, i had a question for you. i've had to download a DLL off a site in order for a program to work. this was ages ago, and now i have basic knowledge of computing and actually repair them for money, by word of mouth. but could you explain to me why the sites are a bad idea? i always cross checked youtube and google searches before downloading anything, but a couple times it had to be done.
